Researchers to Study Healthy Michigan Plan’s Impact

Since its launch last April, more than 500,000 Michiganders have signed up for the new Medicaid health insurance option offered by the state, called the Healthy Michigan Plan. Now, University of Michigan researchers will study how well the new plan works, and advise state officials on how well it’s living up to what lawmakers intended. The U of M Institute for Healthcare Policy and Innovation will evaluate the plan through a five-year contract with the Michigan Department of Community Health. Iola Brubaker from the Upper Great Lakers Health Centers says The Healthy Michigan Plan allows low-income families to get the healthcare they need at an affordable price.

U of M experts will now look at whether it is indeed meeting goals, and study how enrollees are interacting with it.
