Laux Files As Write-In for Houghton County Sheriff

Steve Laux isn’t giving up on his bid to unseat Brian McLean as Houghton County Sheriff.

Houghton County Clerk Jennifer Kelly confirmed that Laux filed paperwork Wednesday to qualify as a write-in candidate in the November general election.

The retired Michigan State Police trooper challenged McLean in the August Republican primary. Despite apparently outspending McLean, he lost by a 63-37 percent margin.

McLean will appear on the November ballot as the Republican candidate. There is no Democratic candidate. Roger Sullivan and Josh Saaranen will also be on the ballot as independents, although Saaranen has indicated that he will not solicit votes, and has endorsed McLean. Hear interviews with McLean, Saaranen and Sullivan on this week’s Copper Country Today.
