– In the opening games of the MacInnes Holiday Classic last night, Houghton defeated Calumet 6-1. Hancock pounded Sault Ste Marie 7-1. Seven different Bulldogs scored in the game. The consolation game between the Copper Kings and Saints will be played this afternoon at 1:00 at MacInnes Arena. The championship match between the Bulldogs and Gremlins will begin at 3:00.
– Jeffers lost at Escanaba 9-3.

In girls’ high school basketball today, Houghton plays at Gladstone.

The MTU hockey team opens play at the Great Lakes Invitational tomorrow. The Huskies face the University of Michigan at 3:30. Michigan State and Ferris State will meet in the other opening-round game. The championship and consolation matches will be played Monday. Tech is ranked fifth in the nation.

NHL – Red Wings Prepare for Senators
The Red Wings play at Ottawa tonight. Faceoff is at 7:00 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

NBA – Pistons Explode Against Pacers
The Pistons ended their four-game losing streak with a 119-109 victory over the Pacers Friday night. Andre Drummond scored 20 points, and Greg Monroe added 19 points and 15 rebounds, as Detroit rolled up its biggest point total of the season. The Pistons play at Cleveland tomorrow afternoon.

Meanwhile, former Piston Josh Smith has officially joined the Houston Rockets. Smith was released by Detroit  earlier this week, in the middle of a lucrative, four-year contract.

NFL – Lions Play at Green Bay
NFL Football LogoThe regular NFL season wraps up tomorrow. The Lions face the Packers at Lambeau Field. Kickoff is at 4:25 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY. The winner of that game will claim the NFC North title, and get a bye in the first round of the playoffs. The loser will open the playoffs as a wild card against the third-seeded NFC team.
