The Copper Country Christian School soccer team defeated the Houghton High School JV club team 8-4 Saturday. Ben Bishop scored five times for the Warriors. Noah Bach scored once and had three assists.

The Minnesota Twins scored twice in the bottom of the ninth, and claimed a 4-3 victory over the Detroit Tigers Saturday. The Tigers got off to a quick start, when Victor Reyes homered on the second pitch of the game. Tarik Skubal excelled, allowing a run on just two hits over six innings. The Tigers took the lead with RBI singles from Jeimer Candelario and Jorge Bonifacio in the top of the seventh. The Twins got one back when Miguel Sanó homered off Joe Jiminez in the bottom of the inning. Sanó then singled home the tying run off Jose Cisnero in the bottom of the ninth. Byron Buxton’s one-out dribbler to shortstop could have been a game-ending double play, but he beat the relay throw to first. The Tigers challenged the call, but the umpires ruled in Minnesota’s favor,
The Tigers and Twins play again this afternoon in Minnesota. Casey Mize will start against Rich Hill. Coverage will begin at 1:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
Detroit has placed shortstop Niko Goodrum on the 10-day disabled list with an oblique injury. Willi Castro is expected to get most of the playing time in Goodrum’s absence. Shortstop Sergio Alcántara has been activated from the taxi squad as a backup.
César Hernández’ RBI single off Josh Hader in the bottom of the ninth gave the Cleveland Indians a 4-3 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers Saturday. Brandon Woodruff pitched four scoreless innings, but left as Cleveland scored three runs in the fifth. Keston Hiura and Orlando Arcia homered for Milwaukee.
That series wraps up today in Cleveland. Brett Anderson will pitch against Shane Bieber.
NFL
The Detroit Lions have signed running back Adrian Peterson. The move returns Peterson to the NFC North Division, where he spent nearly a decade with the Minnesota Vikings. He has since made stops in New Orleans, Arizona and Washington. Washington released him earlier this week. The signing will give Detroit some insurance behind young runners Kerryon Johnson and D’Andre Swift, both of whom have faced injury problems.
The Lions cut 23 players Saturday, to reach the 53-man roster limit. Long snapper Don Muhlbach made the team for the 17th season. The cuts included quarterback David Blough, who started five games for the Lions last season, after injuries knocked out Matthew Stafford and Jeff Driskel.
The Green Bay Packers’ roster includes former Ferris State University receiver Malik Taylor.
NHL
The Islanders cruised into the NHL Eastern Conference finals with a 4-0 victory over the Flyers Saturday. New York takes the semifinal series 4-3, and will face Tampa Bay for the conference championship beginning Monday.
Th Western Conference final series between the Stars and the Golden Knights begins this evening.
NBA
In the NBA Eastern Conference semifinals, the Raptors got past the Celtics 100-93 Saturday, to tie that series 2-2. Today, the Bucks face the Heat. Miami leads that set 3-0.
In the Western Conference semifinals, the Nuggets outscored the Clippers 110-101. That set is tied 1-1. The Rockets and Lakers play tonight. Houston is up 1-0 in that series.
