At the Dale Phillips Invitational Cross Country meet in Marquette yesterday…
In girls Division Two/Three, Chassell took the team title, with Hancock second. Gwen Kangas of the Panthers finished second overall, with Kamryn Sohlden coming in fourth, and Ayla Miller 10th. Sierrah Driscoll earned a third place finish for the Bulldogs, with Maylie Kilpela eighth, and Adia Keranen ninth.
In Boys Division Two/Three, Ishpeming took first place. Chassell’s Kolson Kytta finished third individually, but the Panthers did not field enough runners to qualify for a team ranking.
In Boys Division One, Houghton finished second to Marquette. Marquette runners took seven of the top 10 positions. Brandon Peterson paced the Gremlins with a sixth-place finish.
In Girls Division One, Houghton came in second to Marquette, with Calumet placing fifth. Ingrid Seagren led the Gremlins with a fifth-place finish. Paige Sleeman came in seventh.

MLB
The Detroit Tigers lost both games of their doubleheader against the Minnesota Twins yesterday, falling 2-0 in the opener, and dropping the nightcap 3-2 in eight innings.
In the first contest, Matthew Boyd gave up two solo home runs in the first inning, then allowed just two more hits as he continued through the sixth. He struck out eight.
In the second game, Detroit took a 2-1 lead into the seventh inning. The Twins tied it with a run off Gregory Soto, then plated the game-winner off Joe Jiminez in the top of the eighth.
Doubleheader games this season are scheduled for seven innings.
The Tigers play at Minnesota again tonight. Tarik Skubal will start against Kenta Maeda. Coverage begins at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Milwaukee Brewers routed the Cleveland Indians 7-1 last night. The Crew broke open a tie game with four runs in the seventh, highlighted by a two-run Keston Hiura double. Hiura added a two-run homer in the eighth inning to close out the scoring. Corbin Burnes gave up a run on three hits over six innings to earn the win.
The Brewers play in Cleveland again tonight. Brandon Woodruff will start against Aaron Civale.
NHL
Two more teams advanced to the NHL conference finals last night.
• In the West, the Stars edged the Avalanche 5-4 in overtime, to win their semifinal series 4-3. The Golden Knights blanked the Canucks 3-0 to take their semifinal set 4-3. Dallas and Vegas will open the Western Conference Finals tomorrow night.
• The last Eastern Conference semifinal series will be decided when the Islanders and Flyers play game seven tonight. The winner will face the Lightning in the Eastern Conference Finals.
NBA
In the NBA playoffs last night…
• In the Eastern Conference, the Heat stopped the Bucks 115-100. Miami leads that semifinal series 3-0. The Raptors and Celtics continue their semifinal set this evening, with Boston leading 2-1.
• In the Western Conference, the Rockets outscored the Lakers 112-97 last night, to take a 1-0 lead in their semifinal series. Tonight, the Nuggets face the Clippers. L-A leads that series 1-0.
NFL
Mitchell Trubisky will be the starting quarterback when the Detroit Lions open their NFL season against the Chicago Bears a week from tomorrow. Multiple media reports say Chicago coach Matt Nagy will go with Trubisky over Nick Foles, who was brought in as a free agent to provide another option.
