Obituary: Katherine Foster

Allouez, MI – Katherine “Kate” Lantz Foster, 60, of Allouez, died Saturday, August 29, at Aspirus Hospital in Laurium, Michigan.

Born January 9, 1960, at the Portsmouth NH Naval Shipyard Hospital, in Kittery, Maine, she was the daughter of Margaret “Peggy” Driscoll Lantz of Portsmouth and the late Richard “Dick” Lantz.

As an Air Force “brat” she lived her growing years in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Alabama, New Mexico, Texas, and Michigan.

Graduating from South Lyon High School, Kate attended Northern Michigan University for a time and later earned her degree in Forestry, with honors, from Michigan Tech University where she also met the love of her life, Joe Foster.

After graduation and marrying in Copper Harbor, they moved to northern Minnesota for work, first to International Falls, where Kate worked for the Koochiching County Soil and Water Conservation District and County Assessor’s office.  After that, a move to Eveleth, where she worked as Office Manager and a Certified Wetlands Technician for Northern Lights Surveying & Mapping, located in Biwabik, Minnesota.  After eleven years in Minnesota, they returned to the Copper Country and made their home in Allouez.

As a teen in Prattville, Alabama, Kate loved horses and competed in horse shows winning metals in barrel racing, with her horse Tonka.

Kate enjoyed baking, gardening, sprucing up their home, and sharing fun times with their dogs throughout the Copper Country, especially at Eagle Harbor, which was also her home.

She is survived by her Husband (Joe), Mother (Margaret), Brother (Michael Lantz of Middleton, New Hampshire), Aunt (Mary “Bette” Driscoll of Portsmouth, New Hampshire), and several cousins.

Kate will be laid to rest at Pine Grove Cemetery in Eagle Harbor on Tuesday, October 6th with a grave side ceremony at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the Copper Country Humane Society.
