KNA Raffle Ticket Deadline Nears

The deadline is approaching to purchase tickets in this year’s 50-50 Keweenaw Natural Areas raffle.

Up to 1,000 tickets will be sold at $100 each. If all are sold, the prize will be $50,000.

KNA board member John Griffith says money raised will help pay down the debt the organization took on to complete the purchase of land in and adjacent to the Gratiot River County Park…

“We helped writhe the grant for the county that helped get the park at no cost to the taxpayers, and then we did the same thing to add Gratiot River North, but in the process of that transaction mostly is where most of our debt came from.”

An additional $275,000 needs to be raised by the end of the year to move forward with the purchase of an extra 546 acres, which would tie together several existing parcels that have been set aside for public use. Griffith says it includes more than a half-mile of Lake Superior shoreline, and 1.5 miles of Gratiot River frontage. But…

“If we don’t raise the money to pay off the interim loan, or arrange more long-term financing, we’re going to have to sell it.”

The raffle drawing takes place this Saturday. To buy tickets, and find other ways to support the KNA, visit their website. You can hear Todd VanDyke’s full Copper Country Today interview with John Griffith here.
