Federal Bucks Will Boost Houghton Sewer Upgrade

The City of Houghton is getting some federal help for its ongoing sewer system upgrades. The United States Department of Agriculture has awarded a $138,000 grant, and offered an $87,000 loan to help replace sewer mains in the city.

Bessemer Township got a huge award – a $2,798,000 loan and a $4,562,000 grant to replace more than two miles of water and sewer mains and provide pump station upgrades for its century-old system.
