Michigan Tech Designs Face Shield For Instructors

In an ongoing effort to ensure the health and safety of instructors during face to face classroom learning, Michigan Tech has produced a face shield, for instructors, in a classroom setting.

The face shield allows visibility of the instructors full face, and is comfortable to wear for more than an hour at a time.

The new teaching shield is a modified version of a face shield Tech personnel had developed for medical workers, to battle COVID-19.

The original design was tested and modified in an instructional setting, for different aspects of usability, including long term comfort and durability, sonic shapes, to determine what type of microphone worked best for video conferencing, and an assessment of respiratory particles in close quarters.

Prototypes were then given to faculty members for feedback.

The concerns were addressed, and the latest model is more flexible, durable and comes in various sizes.

This is just one of the many safety measures Michigan Tech is taking, to ensure the health and safety of everyone.
