Several Michigan Agencies Launch Line 5 Website

Several Michigan agencies including the Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy, the Michigan Public Service Commission, and the Mackinac Straits Corridor Authority have launched a website, allowing residents to keep up with the permit process for Canadian Oil Company Enbridge’s proposed new tunnel and pipeline, which will carry crude oil and natural gas under the Straits of Mackinac.

The website will also provide an overview of the regulatory process, the proposed project must follow.

Documentation, timelines and maps will also be part of the new site.

EGLE is charged with environmental permitting for the project, while the Public Service Commission oversees pipelines that carry crude oil and petroleum products.

The Mackinac Straits Corridor Authority will oversee construction of the new tunnel and pipeline and would own it once construction is complete.

EGLE has also set up an email address, so residents can ask questions and give feedback on the project.
