MTU to Make SAT, ACT Optional

Michigan Technological University has joined the growing list of colleges that will consider student applications without an ACT or SAT score.

Director of Admissions Allison Carter says students with a cumulative high school grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale now have the option to apply without submitting test results.

Many members of the high school class of 2020 have been unable to take the tests because of COVID-19 cancellations. In addition, many universities have recognized over the past several years that the standardized tests are a less-than-perfect way of qualifying incoming students.

Applicants may still elect to submit test scores to bolster their chances. Students who wish to be considered for merit-based scholarships are required to submit test scores.
