In high school hockey Friday night…
– Rochester United scored a goal in each period, and defeated Calumet 3-0.
– Houghton remained unbeaten with a 7-2 victory over Farmington Unified.
– At the D-III Showcase in Gaylord, Jeffers skated to a 2-2 tie with Grosse Ile. The Jets will face Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard today.

Michigan Tech Hockey Falls
The fourth-ranked Tech hockey team lost to ninth-rated Minnesota-Duluth 3-1 Friday night. Jamie Phillips took the loss, despite stopping a career-best 38 shots. Dylan Steman scored the Huskies’ only goal, in the third period. Those teams play again tonight. Faceoff is at 7:07 at MacInnes Arena.
Both Tech basketball teams host Wayne State today. The women’s game begins at 1:00, and the men’s game at 3:00, at the SDC.
NMU
The NMU hockey teams lost at Bemidji State 4-2 Friday night. Those teams play in Minnesota again night.
Both NMU basketball teams welcome Findlay this afternoon.
Free Admission to Finlandia Home Games
Finlandia University is offering free admission to all of its home athletic events today.
The result of the men’s hockey game against Aurora University Friday night was not reported. The men host Aurora again this afternoon at 5:00 at the Houghton County Arena. The women’s hockey team has the weekend off.
Both basketball teams entertain Saint Scholastica today. The women’s game starts at 2:00, and the men’s contest at 4:00 at the Paavo Nurmi Center.
Portage Lake Pioneers Win at Fox Cities
In Great Lakes Hockey League play, the Portage Lake Pioneers fell behind 2-0 early, but came back to defeat the Fox Cities Ice Dogs 6-4 Friday night. The Pioneers scored three goals in the third period to put the game away. The Pioneers visit the DePere Deacons tonight. The Calumet Wolverines are off this weekend.
NHL – Red Wings Fall to Panthers
The Red Wings suffered their second-straight shootout loss Friday night, falling to the Panthers 3-2. All of the regulation goals came in the first period, with Riley Sheahan and Gustav Nyquist scoring for Detroit. The Wings are 1-5 in shootouts this season. Detroit skates at Toronto tonight. Faceoff is at 7:00 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
Forward Stephen Weiss left last night’s game with an injured shoulder. He will not play tonight. Petr Mrazek will start in goal tonight, to give Jimmy Howard a rest.
NBA – Pistons Snap Losing Streak
The Pistons broke their 13-game losing streak with a 105-103 victory over the Suns Friday night. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope’s three-pointer with a little more than a minute to play put Detroit on top for good. Andre Drummond led the Pistons with 23 points and 14 rebounds. The Pistons play at Sacramento tonight. We’ll join the game in progress after the Red Wings are finished on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
NFL
In NFL action tomorrow, the Lions host the Vikings in a 4:25 game. Hear the broadcast on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
