Michigan Tech Moving COVID-19 Testing Lab

Since the country is still battling the COVID-19 pandemic, Michigan’ Tech’s testing lab, will be moving to the Great Lakes Research Center in July.

The lab, which runs at the same safety level as a hospital run lab, is currently running from a classroom and lab in the Dow building.

Originally, the lab team assumed it would only be in use for a couple of months, but as the pandemic goes on, it became more apparent a more permanent location was needed.

Plus, it will free up the classroom, when students return in August.

Since opening, the lab has run over 1,200 tests, averaging between 200 and 300 tests per week.

The lab has become an integral part of testing for healthcare providers in the western and central Upper Peninsula.
