Obituary: Virginia Anne Jacka Durst

Calumet – Virginia Anne Jacka Durst “Ginny” was reunited with her beloved husband Brian Edward Durst on June 5, 2020. She was preceded in death by her husband and mother Nancy Kingston Jacka. Born December 20, 1962 to Nancy Kingston Jacka and William Marmaduke Jacka, Sr. in Royal Oak, Michigan. Ginny grew up in Birmingham and attended Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church and School, John Carroll Catholic High School and Jacksonville State University. She married Brian and moved to Dallas and Houston, Texas and eventually to Alpharetta, Georgia, making many life-long friends along the way back to Birmingham. She worked as a mortgage broker throughout those years. After Brian’s death she moved back to Birmingham where she could be with her family. “her kids”, “her babies” and many friends. She loved time with family and friends either in person or through social media most especially FaceBook in particular assisting as an online social media administrator of grief group. Aunt Ginny was like a mother to all her nieces and her great nieces and nephews. She was the “cool mom”. She will always be remembered for her loving get togethers with all of “her kids”. She shared her time at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in their after school and reading program. She also enjoyd preparing meals at the First Light Women’s Shelter. She is survived by William Marmaduke Jacka, Sr (Virginia), her sisters KIatherine Ann Parker (Geoff) of Birmingham and Mary Margaret Hall (Joe) of Birmingham and her brother William Marmaduke Jacka, Jr (Leigh) of Birmingham, her nephews and nieces: Geoffrey Kingston Parker (Amanda), Margaret Elizabeth (Megan) Parker Meadows (William), William Hollis Parker, Nancy Kingston Hall, Elizabeth Anne Hall, William “Trey” Marmaduke Jacka, lll, Claire Elise Jacka and her great-nephews and nieces Jacob Andrew Meadows, Emma Katherine Meadows and Nora Claire Meadows all of Birmingham. A Mass of Christian Burial is to be offered at eleven o’clock in the morning on Thursday, the 11th of June, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church located at 1728 Oxmoor Road, Homewood, Alabama 35209. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family one hour prior to the service. Burial services will be held on Thursday, June 18th at one p.m. at the Lake View Cemetery in Calumet with Rev Fr. Gracious Pulimoottil to officiate. Memorials honoring the life of Ginny may be directed to the Keweenaw County Historical Society located at 670 Lighthouse Road, Eagle Harbor, Michigan 49950. Ryan Funeral Home is serving the family.
