On Thursday, May 21, 2020, William “Bill” Turner passed away at the age of 80 years old.
Bill was born on January 12, 1940 in L’Anse MI to Alfred and Clarabel (Beesley) Turner and was a lifelong resident of L’Anse.
After graduating from L’Anse Area Schools, he married Elizabeth Nopola of Covington MI on February 6, 1960. He spent his career as an industrial welder/mechanic and retired in 2000 from the Upper Peninsula Plumber and Pipefitters Union. He was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in L’Anse and a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He also was a local gunsmith for many years. Bill will be remembered by his wife and children for his love of his family. His hobbies included everything outdoors especially hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Elizabeth (Nopola) Turner of L’Anse; his children, Lisa (Michael) Philip of L’Anse, Michelle (Michael) Jupe of Escanaba, Michael Turner of L’Anse; his niece who was like a sister to him, Nancy (Francis) Magnuson of Gladstone; his grandchildren, Kenneth (Bridget) Summers of Minneapolis MN, Shelley Londo of Negaunee, Carson Newland of L’Anse, Carli Chaudier of Negaunee; his great grandson, Garrett Summers; and several nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Clarabel Turner; his daughter, Catherine Newland; and his sister Marion Ballard.
Funeral arrangements will be held privately with his family.
