Houghton County residents may have turned a corner in how they think about recycling.
That was the consensus from the Houghton County Board of Commissioners meeting last night.
Surveys were sent out to residents, and close to 400 responded, showing confidence in improved recycling efforts in the county.
Of those surveyed, 76% were willing to pay $5 a month for curbside pick up, and 34% were in favor of turning the Houghton County transfer station into a recycling center.
The Board approved the Houghton County Hazard Mitigation Plan, and also thanked Chris Van Arsdale and Rachel Pressly for their work on it.
The COVID-19 Preparedness and Response Plan was also approved.
The Tax Allocation Board approved a resolution to keep the current rate of 8.0 mills, for the next 4 years, and it now goes to the voters in August.
The Board will also hold a closed session meeting on June 2nd, at noon, to begin reviewing applications for a new county administrator, as Eric Forsberg is retiring.
