FinnU Hires Women’s Hockey Coach – Tuesday Sports Wrap

Finlandia

Finlandia University has a new women’s hockey coach. Lindsay Macy comes to the Copper Country from Idaho, where she started the AAA girls program for the Coeur d’Alene Hockey Academy. She played high school hockey at Owatonna High School in Minnesota, and played collegiately for the University of Wisconsin and Minnesota State. She inherits a team that was winless last year, and has collected just eight victories in the past eight seasons.

The Finlandia baseball team has added another recruit. Jonah Hunter is a right-handed pitcher from Fort Worth, Texas.

MLB

The prospect of a Major League Baseball season has taken another step forward. Owners have agreed on a plan that would open training camps in early to mid-June, and begin competition around Independence Day.

Teams would play 82 games within their regions – mostly against their current divisional foes, with some contests against opponents from the corresponding division from the other league. 14 teams would reach the playoffs. Rosters would expand to 30 players. Minor league seasons would be canceled.

The proposal will be presented to the players’ union, which is expected to oppose it. The plan includes significant salary cuts, based on a 50-50 split of revenue for the summer between the owners and the players. Revenue will be reduced significantly, because of the limited number of games, and the absence of fans, at least as games begin. It’s also dependent on the status of the COVID-19 pandemic.
