Houghton City Council Holds Monthly Meeting

Houghton’s City Council held their monthly meeting last night, City Manager Eric Waara gave an update on the parking situation.

Next Wednesday, there will be two focus group meetings with the parking consultants.

The first meeting will be at 9am, while the second meeting is at 5:30pm.

Local businesses were also invited to give their information, to the city, to get on the new business directory.

He also had this to say about the Department of Public Works.

Police Chief John Donnelly reported since the last council meeting, Houghton’s Police Department responded to 152 calls for service.

Of those, 11 resulted in misdemeanor arrests and there were also 3 civil infraction tickets given.

He also took a moment to thank Lt. John Stone.

They also approved the “Families First” Policy for city workers, which is COVID-19 compliant.

The Spring Clean Up, will begin tomorrow, and run through June 7th, with senior and handicapped pick up taking place on May 15th, May 22nd and June 5th.

Budget Work Sessions were also scheduled for May 6th and May 20th at 5:30pm.

How the meetings will be held, depends on the “Stay Home Stay Safe” Order.
