Warming Temps Bring Ticks And Lyme Disease Threat

With temperatures warming in the coming weeks, The Western Upper Peninsula Health Department is reminding people to be aware that ticks will soon be out in full force, and ticks bring Lyme Disease.

With outdoor activities being one of the few exceptions to the “Stay Home Stay Safe” Order, people will be heading outdoors, to enjoy what the Upper Peninsula has to offer.

Before heading out, remember to stay on the center of trails, treat clothing, especially pants, sock and shoes with products containing Permethrin, which repels insects, and once back inside from outdoor activity, check your body and shower.

Links on how to avoid contracting Lyme Disease and identifying ticks, are here and here. *UPDATE* A link for 2019’s updated Lyme Disease areas in Michigan is here.
