MLB Mulls Florida-Arizona Solution – Saturday Sports Wrap

MLB

Major League Baseball’s plan to salvage its season might also include Florida. A proposal floated earlier this week suggested that all of the season’s games could be played in Arizona, using spring training camps and the Diamondbacks’ stadium in Phoenix. An amended version now being discussed would add the spring training venues in Florida. That would give every club a home field. For this season only, the usual affiliations would be dropped. Florida teams would compete in the Grapefruit League, and Arizona squads in the Cactus League. Each of those would be split in half, with Detroit being assigned to the Grapefruit North Division, along with the Yankees, Blue Jays, Phillies and Pirates. No fans would be admitted to the games, but they could be broadcast.

NBA

While the NBA still holds hope of being able to complete its season – or, at least, some sort of playoff – there are reports that the league’s annual draft may be delayed. The draft is scheduled for June 25th, but the evaluation process has already been disrupted. Team officials are suggesting a date no earlier than August 1st.
