Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel is advising consumers that due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, some businesses may take to price gouging.
This practice is illegal, and Nessel is asking consumers to report suspected instances, to her office for review.
Businesses selling face masks, gloves and hand sanitizers at exceptionally high prices are in violation of Michigan’s Consumer Protection Act, and will be investigated, if reported.
Other cleaning and disinfecting supplies may also be at risk for price gouging.
Attorney General Nessel has stated protecting consumers against unfair business practices is a service her office provides to residents.
If you suspect you’ve been a victim of price gouging, you can file a report with the Consumer Protection Team.
The report will be reviewed, and legal action taken, if necessary.
