Hancock City Manager, Former Mayor Givens Dies

Current Hancock city manager and former mayor and council member Barry Givens has died.

Givens served as mayor from 2004 to 2008.

He was selected by the city council in 2018 to replace long-time city manager Glenn Anderson when Anderson announced his retirement. His kidney cancer diagnosis came just a few short months after he took over the position at the beginning of 2019.

Givens remained on medical leave while he fought the disease, with city clerk Mary Babcock assuming many of his duties.

He passed away Monday morning, March 9th, at the age of 49.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Memorial Chapel and Plowe Funeral Homes.
