Hancock Council to Appoint New Member, Consider Beach Club Purchase

The Hancock City Council hopes to appoint a new member tonight.

At a special meeting, councilors will consider applications to fill the at-large seat recently vacated by Stephanie Tubman.

Tubman cited personal issues that were preventing her from devoting the necessary time to the job. She had served on the council for less than a year, having been appointed to fill out the term of former mayor John Haeussler. Haeussler stepped down last June, because of health issues.

State law requires that vacant positions be filled within 30 days. Tonight’s meeting will begin at 6:00 at City Hall.

The city will also consider approval of a Natural Resources Trust Fund Grant to purchase the former Copper Island Beach Club property on the Hancock waterfront.
