KREC Talking with Canadian Company about Biomass

There’s been a lot of talk about the possible rising cost of energy in the U.P. and the many forms of renewable energy that can be used. But now, talks about one of those methods is starting to gain some steam. According to Keweenaw Renewable Energy Coalition spokesman Sam Lockwood, talks have begun with a company in Canada, the largest geothermal company in the world, about what it would take to bring a biomass plant to the U.P. Lockwood says there’s no reason not to move forward on these plans.

Pushback from local lawmakers has delayed the price hikes that were set to happen at the beginning of next month, which buys time for the KREC to continue to get support for their energy efficiency plan.
