Michigan State Troopers patrolling some of the state’s busiest roadways are testing a new technology, which alerts motorists when emergency situations lie ahead.
The new device, transmits a digital alert when a patrol vehicle’s lights and siren are activated, triggering an alert with WAZE users.
Developers refer to this new feature as a digital siren.
Last year, 44 State Patrol Vehicles, which were fully marked and had emergency equipment activated, were struck by passing motorists.
This particular pilot program started in January, and will run through March.
So far, the data shows close to 23,000 motorists, were alerted to 330 incidents.
