Finlandia University

The Finlandia University women’s basketball team won its eighth straight game last night, 72-57 over Northland College. Molly Berg and Katie Lundeen each scored 16 points for the Lions.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings host the New Jersey Devils tonight. Coverage begins at 6:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons overcame a 22-point deficit, but fell 116-112 in overtime to the Orlando Magic last night. Christian Wood led Detroit with 26 points and 12 rebounds.

Because of the All-Star break, the Pistons are off until a week from tonight, when they host the Milwaukee Bucks. Coverage begins at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB

Cameron Maybin is returning to Detroit. The Tigers have signed the veteran outfielder to a one-year deal. It’s said to be worth $1.5 million, with up to $2.8 million in incentives. Maybin made his major league debut with Detroit in 2007, then was traded to the Marlins as part of the Miguel Cabrera deal. He returned to Detroit for the 2016 season, then was sent to the Angels in exchange for for Victor Alcántara. Last season, he hit .285 with 11 home runs for the Yankees, while appearing in half of their games. He’s expected to become the Tigers’ starting right fielder.

Pitchers and catchers worked out for the first time at Lakeland yesterday, as spring training began. Milwaukee Brewers pitchers and catchers begin their workouts today in Arizona.

Our Finlandia University hockey broadcasts continue this weekend. We’ll air the men’s games against Marian University, with pregame coverage beginning tomorrow at 6:55 and Saturday at 3:40. We’ll air the women’s contest against Concordia-Wisconsin Sunday at 2:10 – all on 99.3 The Lift and 993TheLift.com.
