The Village of Baraga has been honored for its efforts to fluoridate its drinking water.
The Water Fluoridation Quality Award comes from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Baraga is one of 51 water systems in Michigan to earn the honor for 2018.
Fluoridation is the adjustment of fluoride in the water to a level that is optimal for preventing tooth decay. It has been recognized by CDC as one of 10 great public health achievements of the 20th Century.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services says 90 percent of Michiganders on community water systems receive fluoridated water.
