Michigan Still Has Issue with Child Homelessness

Michigan ranks well below the half-way-mark in a new report on child homelessness. “America’s Youngest Outcasts: A Report Card on Child Homelessness” ranks Michigan 31st in the country when it comes to the number of homeless children. The study shows that when it comes to health problems for children living well below the poverty level the state ranks 41st. The report card also says that Michigan’s ten-year-plan to end homelessness is inadequate and that educationally fewer than 20% of fourth and eighth graders are proficient in math or reading. At the top of the ranking is Connecticut with Kentucky ranking at the bottom when it comes to the number of homeless children.
