Great Lakes Invitational
Michigan Tech and the University of Michigan will play for the title in the 55th Great Lakes Invitational hockey tournament in Detroit this afternoon.
The Huskies advanced with a 4-2 victory over 18th-ranked Michigan State yesterday. The Huskies scored three times in the third period to earn the come-from-behind win. Tommy Parrottino’s goal tied the game, Eric Gotz found the net with five minutes remaining to give Tech the lead, and Alex Smith sealed the win with an empty-netter. Matt Jurusik made 27 saves.
U of M skated past Ferris State 4-1 in the other semifinal. Jake Slaker scored twice for the Wolverines.
The Spartans and Bulldogs will face off in the consolation match this morning at 11:30. The Huskies and the Wolverines will begin the title match at 2:30 this afternoon.
Finlandia University
Katie Lundeen scored 32 points, as the Finlandia University women’s basketball team defeated Saint Scholastica 66-58 yesterday. The Lions outscored the Saints 17-7 in the first quarter, and never looked back. Lundeen also grabbed 15 rebounds. Molly Berg added 14 points for Finlandia.
NHL
The Detroit Red Wings host the San Jose Sharks tonight. Coverage will begin at 7:10 on 99.3 The Lift.
Detroit’s Tyler Bertuzzi has been named to the NHL All Star Team. Bertuzzi leads the Wings with 14 goals and 16 assists. This will be his first All-Star appearance.
NBA
The Detroit Pistons lost to the Utah Jazz 104-81 last night. Derrick Rose led Detroit with 20 points.
The Pistons visit the Los Angeles Clippers Thursday. Pregame coverage will begin at 10:05 on 99.3 The Lift.
