Good weather led to a big increase in attendance at this year’s Houghton County Fair.
The Fair Board’s year-end report estimates attendance at 23,790 – more than 4,000 better than the 2018 fair.
Admission receipts, carnival rides and livestock sale auction receipts set new records.
230 volunteers contributed 5,100 hours to help make the fair work.
The dates for next year’s fair have been set for August 27th to the 30th.
The Skerbeck Entertainment Group will again provide the rides and midway. Entertainment will include the Monster Truck Throwdown, ZUZU African Acrobats, the Whispering Pines Mobile Zoo, and the return of a horse pull on Saturday afternoon.
There will be a ticket price increase. Adult admissions for Saturday only will rise from $7.00 to $10.00. The adult four-day pass purchased at the gate will go from $23.00 to $25.00. All other ticket prices, including the advance purchase adult four-day pass, will remain the same.
Kathleen Caspary will serve as president of the Fair Board next year, with Rick Freeman as vice president, Debbie Winquist as secretary, and Steve Palosaari as Treasurer.
