PHF Giving Tuesday Total “Overwhelming”

This year’s Portage Health Foundation Giving Tuesday campaign will pump nearly a third of a million dollars into 15 local nonprofits.

The December 3rd event brought in $217,781 from around 550 donors. PHF matched the first $100,000 in donations dollar-for-dollar, for a total of $317,781.

PHF Executive Director Kevin Store said the response was far greater than they had expected…

Store credited the generosity of Copper Country residents, and many who love the Copper Country, but live elsewhere…

Store says there are a few lingering donations that are still expected.

The 15 non-profits that partnered with the Portage Health Foundation this year were the Swedetown Trails Club, Superior Search and Rescue, Simple Kindness for Youth (SKY), Phoenix House, the Ontonagon County Cancer Society, Omega House, Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly, the Keweenaw Family Resource Center, Dial Help, Dan Schmitt Gift of Music, Copper Country Senior Meals, Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Barbara Kettle Gundlach Shelter, the Baraga County Shelter Home, and 31 Backpacks.

Arrangements are being made to distribute funds to those organizations next week.
