Beware: Scammers Using Fake UP.NET Emails

Another day, another scam.

Emails appearing to come from UP.net are have been popping up in UP.net account in-boxes.

The headline might say “Urgent Message” or “Enjoy Free 5G Internet Service.” The email includes UP.net’s logo, a sign-up link for a free 5G service trial, and an employee signature. It looks great, but… the “employee” does not work for UP.net… the link does not take you to the UP.net website… there’s no 5G service anywhere close to us… and your phone wouldn’t know what to do with it, anyway.

Shawn Laemmrich… who really DOES work for UP.net… tells us hackers were able to corrupt one email account, and use it to originate the messages. That account has been shut down. Laemmrich says they’re working with their email provider to cleanse the system.

In the meantime, if you get a free 5G offer by email that appears to come from UP.net, delete it. And don’t reply to it – your angry message will only go to the innocent victim whose account was hijacked.
