Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
The Michigan Tech volleyball team is heading to the NCAA tournament for the third straight year. The Huskies are seeded sixth in the Midwest Region, and will open against third-seed Missouri-St. Louis on December 5th. The Midwest Regional will be hosted by at top-seeded Lewis University in suburban Chicago.
Tech guard Tommy Lucca has been named the GLIAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. Lucca scored a career-best 34 points against Minnesota-Duluth on Saturday.
Finlandia
Both Finlandia University basketball teams will host the College of Saint Scholastica today. Because of winter storm predictions, the start times for the contests have been moved up. The men’s contest will tip off at 3:00 at the Paavo Nurmi Center, with the women’s contest to follow at 5:00.
NHL
The Detroit Red Wings will host the Toronto Maple Leafs tomorrow. Coverage begins at 6:40 on 99.3 The Lift.
NBA
The Detroit Pistons outscored the Orlando Magic 103-88 last night. Luke Kennard led Detroit with 20 points, and the Pistons defense held the Magic to just 33 points in the second half.
The Pistons visit the Charlotte Hornets tomorrow evening.
NFL
In last night’s NFL contest, the Baltimore Ravens crushed the Los Angeles Rams 45-6.

Detroit Lions quarterback Jeff Driskel is dealing with a sore hamstring, after Sunday’s loss to Washington. He was listed as “limited” on yesterday’s practice report, although the team didn’t actually practice. The only other quarterback the Lions have on their roster is David Blough, an undrafted rookie from Purdue. Starter Matthew Stafford continues to be sidelined because of broken bones in his back.
MLB
Drew VerHagen will not be part of the Detroit Tigers’ pitching staff next summer. After eight years in the Detroit organization, he’s signed a one-year contract to play for the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters in Japan next summer. To fill VerHagen’s spot on the roster, the Tigers purchased the contract of right-hander Dario Agrazal from the Pirates.
