FDA Warns About Dollar Tree/Family Dollar Drugs

The federal government says some of the over-the-counter drugs and cosmetics sold by the Dollar Tree and Family Dollar store chains may not be safe.

The Food and Drug Administration issued a warning letter to store owner Greenbriar International last week.

It accuses Greenbriar of importing products – mostly from China – from companies that are not following approved manufacturing and safety testing processes.

The FDA also says Greenbriar had agreed to discontinue doing business with some of the companies earlier this year, but has not followed through.

No recalls have been issued. The only specific product mentioned is an acne treatment pad marketed under the company’s generic brand name, “Assured.” A company spokesman told CNN that all of the products involved are topical.
