Edward Philip Rock, age 94, of Pequaming, Mi., passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2019 at Canal View Veterans Facility in Hancock, Mi.
He was born December 28, 1924 in Pequaming, Mi., son of Edward and Sarah (LaParche) Rock. Ed graduated from Pequaming High School and then enlisted in the 1st. Marine Division of the United States Marine Corp. during WWII from 1942 to 1946 where he served in China, Okinawa, Attu and the Aleutian Islands and was awarded two bronze service stars and a good conduct medal. Edward worked in the logging industry (Yeadon and Rock Logging Co.) and worked in the Iron Mine in Negaunee for 2 1/2 years before he started as a foreman at Celotex Corp. in L’Anse, Mi. He was then an owner/operator of North American Moving Vanlines for 10 years before retiring in 1986.
He married Kathleen Yeadon of Ontonagon, Mi. In 1946 until her death in 1988. They had three children, Rochelle, Susan and Lynn. He married Charlotte (Weis) Lackie from Sturgeon Bay, Wi. in 2001 where he gained two stepsons, Robert and Gary Lackie.
Surviving are his wife, Charlotte Rock of Pequaming, Mi., daughters Rochelle Murphy of Grand Rapids, Mi. , Susan (Roy) Stearns of Naples, Fl., and Lynn (Kevin) O’Shasky of Eagle River, Wi., stepsons, Robert of Sturgeon Bay, Wi. and Gary (Jeane) of Green Bay, Wi., sister Helen Ensign of L’Anse, Mi., five grandchildren: Susan (Andy) DeFabis of Chandler, Az., Julie Glover of Grand Rapids, Mi., Jennifer Brown of Rhinelander, Wi., Tom (Lydia) LeClaire of DePere, Wi., and Erika (Dimitri) Gatis of Naples, Fl., five great grandchildren: Vincent (Katlin) Defabis, Heather DeFabis, Megan and McKenna Brown and Mila Gatis and two great, great grandchildren, Jaxon and Aubrey DeFabis, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his parents, brothers, James and John Rock, sisters, Estell Getzen, Dorothy Ross and Ada Almli.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 16th from 2:00 to 3:00 PM at Jacobson Funeral Home in L’Anse, Mi. Baraga County Area Veterans will conduct military rites at 3:00PM under the direction of American Legion Post 444. A memorial service will follow with Deacon John Cadeau officiating. A luncheon will be held afterward in the Sharing Room at Jacobson Funeral Home.
