Today is Veterans Day, saluting those who have spent time in service to our country. Veterans Day is an official federal and state holiday, so many government offices will be closed. Some financial services may not be available, and there will be no mail delivery.
Some local schools have scheduled observances.
At L’Anse High School, a veterans breakfast will begin at 8:00. Veterans will be honored at a school assembly at 8:45. Craig Middleton will be the guest speaker. All veterans and members of the public are welcome.
At Baraga High School, a program will begin at 10:15 in the gym. Stan Spruce will speak. The student council will hold a reception for veterans and their families in the library, following the program.
At Houghton High School, the Houghton JROTC will conduct a ceremony in the gym at 11:00. It will last about an hour. The public is encouraged to attend.
