In the high school volleyball tournament last night…
– In Division Three, Calumet blanked Hancock 3-0 (25-13, 26-24, 25-14). Ironwood eliminated Iron Mountain 3-1. The Copper Kings will face the Red Devils for the district title tonight in Ironwood.
– In Division Four, District 98, Jeffers dropped the first two sets, then came back to oust Lake Linden-Hubbell 3-2 (22-25, 13-25, 25-18, 25-21, 16-14). Marissa Nordstrom led the Jets with 12 kills. Chassell blanked Dollar Bay-Tamarack City 3-0. The Jets and Panthers will play for the district drown tomorrow night in Chassell.
– In Division Four, District 97, Ewen-Trout Creek defeated Ontonagon 3-0, and Wakefield-Marenisco blanked Watersmeet 3-0. The Panthers will host the Cardinals in the district title game tomorrow.
Finlandia
The Finlandia women’s soccer team placed seven players on the American Collegiate Athletic Conference all-star squad. Kirsten L’Esperance was named Player of the Year, and Dasia Knowles Defensive Player of the Year. Joining them on the first team were Erika Lambert and Brie Witt. Molly Berg and Meaghan Maly were named to the second team. Sam Linteo was named First-Year Player of the Year.
NHL
The Detroit Red Wings’ struggles continued last night, with a 5-1 loss to the New York Rangers. Valtteri Filpula scored Detroit’s only goal. Jimmy Howard stopped 26 shots. Detroit has lost 10 of their last 11 games. In their last four games, they’ve been outscored 22-5.
The Wings entertain the Boston Bruins tomorrow night. Pregame coverage begins at 7:10 on 99.3 The Lift.
NBA
Andre Drummond scored 27 points, as the Detroit Pistons defeated the New York Knicks 122-102 last night. Playing again without Blake Griffin and all three of their point guards, the Pistons rolled up 37 assists. Tony Snell added 24 points, and hit all six of his three-point attempts.
The Pistons visit the Indiana Pacers tomorrow night.
