Legislature “On Track” with Budget Bills

The Republican-led state legislature hopes to have completed state budget bills forwarded to Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer late this week.

At the GOP’s retreat on Mackinac Island over the weekend, Senate leader Mike Shirkey told reporters that the plan to complete the document with minimal input from the governor is on track.

Michigan’s fiscal year ends Monday, and parts of the state government could be shutdown a week from today if no agreement is reached.

When the budget bills reach the governor, she can sign them, reject them, or exercise her line item veto power.
