Wolf Hunting Battle Continues

One week after the general election and the battle over wolf hunting in Michigan continues. Wolf hunting opponents are confident that a new state law putting decisions on game species in the hands of the Natural Resources Commission, will be rejected by the courts. The group Keep Michigan Wolves Protected says the new law, approved earlier this year by the legislature, contains too many different subjects in one act, including licensing policy for veterans and a one million dollar appropriation for Asian carp prevention. The group plans a legal challenge of the law. Wayne Pacelle of the Humane Society of the United States, says putting multiple subjects in an act is unconstitutional. The group also opposes the idea of the NRC, which is appointed, making final decisions on game species instead of the legislature. The law approved by the legislature and signed by the governor is separate from the two pro-wolf hunting proposals rejected by voters last week.
