Ribbon Cut at Canal View

Officials showed off the revamped Houghton County Medical Care facility on Saturday.

Now known as Canal View Houghton County, the building has been given a facelift from top to bottom. Highlights include a new dining tower, with a panoramic view of the canal. Rehab facilities have been upgraded. Flooring and wall coverings have been changed to reflect a less “institutional” image.

Administrator Kim Salmi said the result is a reflection of the community…

The facility also includes a classroom for Certified Nursing Assistant training. 58 students from local high schools are currently enrolled.

The ribbon was cut by 111-year-old Stella Lennox, and was held by 99-year-old Eleanor Bertolli (left), and Margaret Paoli (right), who described herself as “almost 99.”

This “training kitchen” helps rehab patients who will be returning home feel comfortable with household tasks. It also includes a washer and dryer.
