Obituary: Eugene “Pat” Roth

Eugene “Pat” Roth, age 85 of L’Anse MI passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at his home on the Indian Cemetery Road.

He was born June 12, 1934 in Birnamwood, WI son of George and Malinda (Smith) Roth. Eugene married Miriam Barnett on August 4, 1962 in Skanee. He worked in the woods as a lumberjack, sailed the Great Lakes on a freighter, served in the Army as a stevedore and military policeman, and retired from the Baraga County Memorial Hospital as the maintenance supervisor.

Eugene loved the outdoors and enjoyed deer hunting and just being in the woods. In his younger years he chased coyotes with his redbone hound and brother Wally. The only thing he liked more than catching fish was eating them. He loved animals and enjoyed raising chickens, ducks, geese, guinea hens, turkeys, and pigs over the years. Eugene loved to cruise the back forty and visit the neighbors on his 4-wheeler and served as a self-appointed, one-man neighborhood watch security patrol.

Surviving are his children, Mike (Paula) Roth of Aura, Ed Roth of L’Anse, Suzan (Greg) Ollila of Skanee, and Sam (Christine) Roth of Clarksville TN; siblings Wally (Carol) Roth of L’Anse, Gladys (Jon) Telschow of Ukiah CA, Dorothy Pike of Brandenburg KY, Jesse (Dianne) Roth of Rock Island TN, sister-in-law Irma Roth of Green Bay WI, grandchildren Cheree, Amanda, Samantha, Jeffery, Rebecca, Paige, and Scott.

Preceding him in death are his parents; George and Malinda Roth, Brothers; George Jr. and Jackie Roth, Sisters: Ida Mae Charles and Mary Roth. Visitation will be on Thursday, September 12th from 10- 11:00 a.m. at Jacobson Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Jacobson Funeral Home with Pastor Pete Suomela officiating. A luncheon will follow at the Aura Fire Hall.
