Michigan AG Slams “Me Too Kits”

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has asked a New York-based company to stop selling do-it-yourself sexual assault evidence collection kits in our state.

Nessel describes the “Me Too Kits” as a shameless way to make money off the recent “Me Too” movement. All victims of sexual assault are encouraged to seek medical treatment immediately, where professional collection of evidence can take place at no charge to the victim.

Without establishing a legal chain of custody, evidence collected by victims outside the presence of law enforcement would likely be inadmissible in court.

If the company does not stop doing business in Michigan by the end of this week, legal action could be pursued. See Nessel’s letter here
