High School Volleyball Tourney
– In the high school volleyball tournament, at the Class D District at Lake Linden-Hubbell… the Lakes will face Ontonagon for the title tonight at 6:00.
– In Class C tournament play, Calumet took the District title with a 3-0 win over L’Anse last night. The Copper Kings will face Iron Mountain in the regional semifinal on Tuesday. That game will begin at 7:00 in L’Anse. Gwinn will face Indian River Inland Lakes in the other regional semifinal. If Gwinn and Calumet win on Tuesday, the regional final will be played Thursday at Negaunee. If Indian Lakes and Calumet win on Tuesday, the regional final will be played Thursday at Indian River.
– In Class B, Houghton plays at Kingsford for the District title tonight at 6:30 Eastern time.
High School Football

MTU Women’s Hoops Downs Finlandia
The MTU women’s basketball team buried Finlandia University 107-56 in an exhibition last night. Tech raced out to an 18-5 lead early in the game… but Finlandia hung tough, and trailed by just eight points late in the first half. The Huskies held the Lions to just 19 points in the second half. Morgan Anderson scored 36 points for Tech. She hit nine three-pointers. Marissa Burke scored 26 for Finlandia. See video highlights from the game here.
The MTU soccer team faces Grand Valley State in the semifinals of the GLIAC tournament this afternoon at 4:00. The tournament is being played at Ohio Dominican University in Columbus. The host Panthers face Ashland tonight in the other semifinal.
Three Huskies’ soccer players were honored by the GLIAC yesterday. Jacqueline Mielke and Emily Morin were named to the All-Conference Second Team, and Annie Dahlquist received Honorable Mention votes.
The MTU hockey team entertains Alaska-Anchorage tonight and tomorrow night. Faceoffs are at 7:37 tonight, and 7:07 tomorrow night.
The 20th-ranked MTU football team entertains number-22 Ashland tomorrow. Kickoff is at 1:00 at Sherman Field.
The Tech volleyball team wraps up its regular season at home this weekend. The Huskies face Northwood this afternoon at 5:00, and Lake Superior State tomorrow afternoon at 4:00.

The Northern Michigan University hockey team entertains Ferris State tonight and tomorrow night.
The NMU football team plays at Ferris State tomorrow afternoon.
Finlandia
The Finlandia men’s hockey team opens NCHA play with games at Saint Norbert tonight and tomorrow afternoon. The Lions’ women’s team entertains Saint Scholastica this weekend. Faceoffs are at 7:15 this evening, and 2:00 tomorrow afternoon, at the Houghton County Arena.
The Finlandia volleyball and soccer teams are in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where the Great South Athletic Conference tournaments open today. The Lions’ volleyball team is seeded third, and takes on the Pine Manor Gators from Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, at 10:00 this morning. The Lions’ soccer team is seeded sixth, and opens against the Wesleyan College Pioneers from Macon, Georgia, this afternoon at 12:30.
NHL – Red Wings Host Devils
The Detroit Red Wings host the Devils tonight. Faceoff is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
The Wings have called goalie Petr Mrazek up from Grand Rapids to fill in for Jonas Gustavsson. Gustavsson dislocated his shoulder late in Wednesday’s game. The injury is still being evaluated, but team officials say it will likely be at least several weeks before he can return.
NBA – Pistons Host Bucks
The Detroit Pistons entertain the Bucks tonight.
NFL – Browns Stifle Bengals
In last night’s NFL game, the Browns shut down the Bengals 24-3.
The Lions return to action Sunday at home against the Dolphins. Receiver Calvin Johnson will return to the lineup, after missing some time with an ankle injury. Kickoff is at 1:00 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
The Packers host the Bears in the Sunday night game.
