Former Senator; Bridge Exec North Dies

Former State Senator and longtime Mackinac Bridge administrator Walter North has died. North served the 37th District… including the eastern Upper Peninsula and the northern part of the Lower Peninsula… from 1994 through 2002. North spent the first part of his life in the Battle Creek area, before relocating to St. Ignace. He served as comptroller and executive director of the Mackinac Bridge Authority… where he worked for 27 years. North also spent terms as President of the Upper Peninsula Tourism and Recreation Association and Chair of the Lake Superior University Foundation. The funeral service will take place in Saint Ignace on Wednesday. Walt North was 81 years old. No cause of death was announced.
