Houghton County Sheriff’s Deputies Receive Medals

Distinguished Service Medals: Deputy Hans Tolkkinen and Deputy Angela Miles of Houghton County — with Houghton County Sheriff’s Office, MI.

Two deputies from the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office are among those to be honored at the Michigan Sheriff’s Association annual awards ceremony.

The awards honor the bravery, sacrifice, and service by members of the state’s Sheriff’s Departments.

Deputy Hans Tolkkinen and Deputy Angela Miles received Distinguished Service Medals, along with Deputy Jonathon Ramirez of Tuscola County.

Other awards included the Sheriff’s Medal of Honor for Sergeant Dyer and Deputy Perez of Berrien County and Lt. Shenk of Shiawassee County, and the Presidential Citation with Lifesaving Award was presented to Deputy Joseph Bommarito of Mackinac County.

The 2019 Sheriff of the Year award went to Sheriff Thomas Reich of Eaton County.
