The Michigan Tech hockey team has introduced its latest recruiting class. It includes twin Pietilas from Howell, downstate – goaltender Blake, and forward Logan. Other forwards include Jake Crespi from Brighton; Logan Ganie from Irma, Alberta; and Parker Saretsky from Wainwright, Alberta. The Detroit Tigers lost 4-0 to the Tampa Bay Rays last night. Detroit collected just five hits. Spencer Turnbull gave up three runs on five hits over five innings, and was hurt by some sloppy defense.
The Tigers will host the Rays again this afternoon. Daniel Norris will start against Ryne Stanek. Pregame coverage will begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
Bryan Anderson’s grand slam helped the Miami Marlins sink the Milwaukee Brewers 8-3 last night. The third-inning blow spoiled the much-awaited return of Jimmy Nelson, who made his first major league start after nearly 22 months rehabbing a shoulder injury. Nelson gave up five runs over three innings. Yasmani Grandal homered for Milwaukee.
The Brewers entertain the Marlins again this afternoon. Freddy Peralta will pitch against Caleb Smith.

– Coca Cola/Monte Carlo defeated Downtowner Two 14-8. Brandon Teichman had four hits, including a triple and two doubles.
– Harter’s Carquest downed Koppers 22-7. Alex Loukus, Jake Loukus, and Joe Rivest homered.
NHL
The Stanley Cup championship series continues tonight, as the Saint Louis Blues visit the Boston Bruins. The set is tied at two wins per team.
NBA
In the NBA Championship Series last night, the Toronto Raptors defeated the Golden State Warriors 123-109. Toronto leads that series 2-1.
Fishing
The annual Rice Lake Fishing Derby will be held Sunday. Registration begins at 7:00 at the Lake Linden-Hubbell Sportsmen’s Association Clubhouse on Rice Lake road. This is a family-oriented event, with fishing, food, fun and games for kids and adults. No fishing licenses are necessary, because of Michigan’s Free Fishing Weekend. Our high school softball tournament coverage continues Saturday from the Division Four regionals at Norway. L’Anse will face Bark River-Harris at 11:00 Eastern Time.
