Elaine Louise Aro, 88, of Baltic, passed away Thursday, May 30, 2019, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock, following a lengthy illness.
Prior to entering the nursing home, she had been residing at Garden View Assisted Living in Calumet.
She was born in Trimountain on July 3, 1930, a daughter of the late Matt and Marie (Baakko) Harju. She attended the Adams Township schools and was a 1948 graduate of the Painesdale High School. She attended Suomi College in Hancock, receiving a degree in Accounting.
Elaine was married to Arthur “Art” Aro in August of 1953, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Baltic. Art passed away March 14, 20015.
Elaine was employed for many years at Vulcan Corp. in Donken. Later, she worked for Range Oil & Gas in South Range, retiring from there.
Elaine was a longtime devoted member of Grace Lutheran Church of South Range. She always attended Bible study and was the church treasurer for many years.
She enjoyed sewing, gardening, knitting and crocheting. She was a wonderful baker and will always be remembered for her apple pies and apple bars. Elaine enjoyed being a homemaker and caring for her family.
Surviving are two sons, David (Vickie) of South Range, and Daniel of Plymouth, Michigan; two grandchildren, Heather Aro (Daron Butkovich) of Dodgeville, and Jill Aro of Yuma, Arizona; and five great-grandchildren, Matthew, Jarod, Brandon, Alex and Rhiannon.
Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 7, 2019, at Grace Lutheran Church in South Range, with Vicar Micah Cavaleri to officiate. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Burial will be in the Mountain View Cemetery in South Range. Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church in Elaine’s memory.
