Houghton-Keweenaw County 4-H Scholarship Awarded

Hancock’s Andrew Olson is the recipient of the annual Houghton-Keweenaw County 4-H Senior Scholarship.

The award recognizes Olson for his active participation in 4-H and outstanding application that highlighted the positive impact that 4-H had on his life.

He has served as co-president of the Copper Tips 4-H Archery Club and is very active in his club and the 4-H community.

“Andrew exemplifies a key component of 4-H, which is service to others within the community. He has embraced service, helping teach younger 4-H members at the annual 4-H Spring Discovery Day and through the Archery Club. He is always eager to ask when help is needed and lend a hand to others. He also volunteers his time within the community on activities including organizing a county-wide 4-H community service project to construct several hundred holiday treat baskets for Little Brothers- Friends of the Elderly, presenting to the Keweenaw Community Foundation in support of 4-H funding, amongst numerous other community service activities,” says Anne Kretschmann, Houghton-Keweenaw County 4-H Program Coordinator. 

Andrew will be awarded the Senior Scholarship at a CCCS school ceremony.

This annual $500 competitive scholarship is awarded to a High School Senior who has been involved in 4-H for a minimum of 3 years and lives in Houghton or Keweenaw Counties.

The scholarship applies towards educational plans beyond high school such as college, university, military, trade school, or apprenticing.
