Six area high school seniors who participated in BHK Child Development early childhood education programs have been awarded educational scholarships through the BHK Foundation.
Jason Ackerman (Houghton High School), Brandon Antilla (Calumet High School), Peyton Holma (L’Anse High School), Mckenna Keranen (Lake Linden-Hubbell High School), Sarah Mills (L’Anse High School), and Mikayla Sague (Houghton High School) were each awarded $500 to help cover expenses related to post-secondary education, with the opportunity to receive $250 for each subsequent year of enrollment in an institute of higher education and satisfactory grades.
The BHK Foundation was created in January 2005, to support BHK Child Development Board education services and programs for area families. An independent board of directors comprised of community leaders, educators, government officials, businesspeople and parents, oversees the Foundation. Scholarships are awarded based on student character, academic achievement, financial need and a demonstrated commitment to the local community.
