CCISD Board Member Receives MASB President’s Award

Copper Country Intermediate School District Board Member Karen Johnson is one of only six Michigan school board members to receive the President’s Award of Recognition this year–the highest award from the Michigan Association of School Boards

Johnson was presented with the award at the CCISD Board of Education regular monthly meeting on Tuesday by MASB representative Brad Baltensperger.  “Karen Johnson is the fifth school board member from the Upper Peninsula to receive the President’s Award,” said Baltensperger.

Recipients must complete at least 38 courses designed to strengthen board member’s skills and knowledge of education issues and effective education leadership.  They must also earn education credits related to school board service and attendance at local, state, and national conferences.

She also received a Data Specialty Award. To receive the Data Specialty Award, a board member must complete requirements including Board Governance for Data-Informed Decision making, District Strategic Planning and Goal Setting, Data First: Foundations, Teacher Quality, High School and Beyond and finally Dashboards for Board Members.
